Wat een geweldige zaterdagmiddag was dat !! We zijn door Ilvy Njiokiktjien uitgenodigd voor de Finissage van haar expositie in de Grote Kerk in Alkmaar!! Ilvy is een geweldige Nederlandse fotografe. Ze maakt veel indrukwekkende reportages (ze is fotojournaliste en storyteller) en heeft al veel prijzen in de wacht gesleept van o.a. de National Geographic, World Press Photo Award, Zilveren Camera, ze is fotografe des Vaderlands geweest en we hebben haar als fotoclub al eens uitgenodigd voor een geweldige lezing. We werden zaterdagmiddag om 14:00 uur verwacht om te komen kijken naar haar expositie waarbij ze ons al een kleine privé rondleiding gaf langs een paar mooie werken van haar. Daarna hebben we met een klein gezelschap haar VPRO-documentaire Born Free – Mandela’s Generation Of Hope bekeken die ze samen met regisseur Erik van Empel gemaakt heeft. Nadien hebben we van haar een rondleiding langs al haar werk gehad en vertelde ze boeiende verhalen bij de foto’s.
De middag hebben we afgesloten met gezellig napraten onder het genot van een drankje. Dat was weer een leuk en gezellig clubuitje.

Born Free, Mandela’s Generation of Hope. (Short-doc, 13:39 min), 2019
In 1994 South Africa held its first inclusive elections. These brought an end to decades of white minority rule. A new constitution gave all South Africans equal rights. As the nation’s first black president, Nelson Mandela focused on reconciliation and hope for the future. It would be up to the young generation to make his dream of a rainbow nation come true. Over twelve years ago photojournalist and videographer Ilvy Njiokiktjien started working on a project about South Africa’s youth, specifically on the ‘born free generation’. These are the children born in the years right after apartheid was abolished and Nelson Mandela became president. They are now young adults. They are Mandela’s human legacy: the first generation in which every South African has the same opportunities and racial segregation, on paper, is a thing of the past. They were to be the face of a new, free, and successful South Africa
